Description
DESCRIPTION
We will meet at La Guarida Motos, the only coffee and motorcycle shop in Punta Arenas. There, they can enjoy some hot drinks and snacks while preparing themselves with the certificated equipment we will provide to have a confortable and safe trip. It’s also time to take contact with the bikes and get ready to start the experience to ride North to the heart of Magallanes province.
During our trip we’ll follow the shore of the Magellan Strait and right after the Airport we’ll enter the endless Patagonian Pampa with not a single tree for almost 2.000 km North. We might have the chance to see some autochthonous fauna like Patagonian ostriches, guanacos, red foxes and caranchos, as well as the vast development of modern sheep farming, as well as some spectacularly exposed glacial landforms and the Andean cordillera at the far West in the enormous Patagonian horizon. This is the land of the wind, and for sure we’ll feel its power during the trip, quite possibly making the ride a little bit challenging as we may need to “sail” with our bikes.
The first stop will be at Chorrillo Las Latas (tin creek), named after the tin boxes of fuel that used to be discarded here during the first half of last century. Will have some snack and check our rides before keep going North entering the Pampas, land of Tehuelches, the nomadic people that used to live here until early 20th century.
Once leaving the main road, we’ll have a short and nice ride on a secondary dirt road to reach our target, La Leona Cave, a small valley in the laguna Blanca basin that provided shelter for the Tehuelches, who left some stone paintings on its walls.
After enjoying a field snack we’ll come back to Punta Arenas to La Guarida to have a taste of the Patagonian cuisine from La Ventisca Restaurant with its specialities like Icefish, Patagonian Toothfish and Krill, along with a pisco sour and Chilean Carmenere.
